Joe's Story
On May 5th, 2006, 3 weeks before his 3rd birthday, Joe suffered a life threatening spinal aneurysm that left him a quadriplegic. He was airlifted to Children’s Hospital where he spent the next three months. Prior to the aneurism, which doctors say was caused by a rare circumstance where a group of blood vessels had grown together, he was perfectly healthy.
What we were told:
• Joe may not make it out of the extensive surgery to clean up his damaged spine
• If Joe made it through the surgery he would be a complete quadriplegic
• Joe most likely would only have a life expectancy of another five years
What we know:
• Joe is a strong boy and a fighter
• Joe has regained movement in his arms down to his wrists and has movement in his thumbs
• Doctors now disagree with the original diagnosis of his life expectancy
• Joe has the opportunity to be a part of an amazing program at the Kennedy Krieger Institute that is creating everyday miracles for many children.
What we are doing:
• Grassroots fundraising to help supplement the costs of the program.
We are going to do anything that we need to do to help Joe get back on his feet!
